June Pack Meeting

The boys had a great time at our pack meeting playing some fun water games that Sister Pruitt put together.  It was a fantastic pack meeting and the boys were all good sports!

We welcome a new wolf, Jackson Bird, who already received his Bobcat.  We say good bye to Gabriel Winkel and will miss him in our den.  What a lot of fun these boys are.

We will be going to cub scout day camp on the 28th of June.  We will be leaving the church at 6:30 in the morning to head up to the camp, so please be on time.  Your son will need a sack lunch and some water.  If you haven't paid for the camp yet, please write Alyson Freedman a check as soon as possible. If you son isn't able to attend, please let us know that as well.  Thank you for all that you do.  We love the boys!

Today was a fun day with the wolf den.  So sorry that I didn't take any pictures!  We had lots of bubble making going on and the boys had to do some scientific thinking to see if the bubbles would all be spherical if we used different shapes.  They also made some pretty big bubbles with their hand made wands made from string and straws.  Ask them about it and they can tell you what they did.  There are a couple of recipes that I will post so that you can make some bubbles at home.  The one I used didn't work as well as I had hoped, but the store bought bubbles were great.  Here are the recipes:

6 cups water (distilled is best)
3/4 cup corn syrup (Karo Light)
2 cups of Joy or Dawn dish washing liquid
Mix together.  Let set 4 hours and then enjoy!

12 cups of water
1 cup dish soap
3 T glycerin

I did the second recipe and I think that there is too much water/dilution.  I would recommend only 6 cups of water for that one too.  Try it out and see if you can make some big bubbles at home this summer.  The boys were all so fun to watch as they experimented with the bubbles.

Looking ahead, the following Wednesday, May 26, our wolf den has been asked by the Edgemont 1st Ward Young Men's President to post the colors and stay for an Eagle Court of Honor.  The young man getting his Eagle is Brand Nelson.  As a result of this invitation, we will meet at the church in full uniform at 6:45 p.m. and be a part of an Eagle Court of Honor.  This should be a great experience for the boys and they will be able to see a special event relating to scouts.  This is something that can be checked off in their books if it hasn't been done already.  It should last one hour and be done by 8:00 p.m.  If you need to pick up your son before it ends, please make arrangements with me so that I can have your son ready to leave without disrupting the Eagle Scout program.  Thank you so much for all that you do to help us as den mothers.  Have a great week!

See you next week.

Wolf Den at the BYU Recycling Center

May day update...

A big thank you to Ky Raymond and Scott Henderson for heading up our mini-basketball camp with the boys today.  It was fantastic and we learned about a bounce pass, chest pass, and over head pass.  These are things that can be passed off in the electives section of our books if you haven't done so already.  Please ask your son to tell you about the rules of playing basketball and then we will all have another belt loop that we can receive at the June pack meeting.  The boys were good sports and fantastic basketball players.  It was a fun day.

Fire Station Visit

We had a great time visiting our local fire station last month.  All the boys were very well behaved and learned a lot from our local fire chief.  There were many good questions asked by the boys.

April

We will be having a pack meeting this first week of April. Many of you will be out of town, but the Cub Masters decided to hold a pack meeting for those who are going to be here. The awards for the boys will be given to those who are present and the others will receive their belt loops, arrows and advancements in May. It should be fun. Our Wolf Den has the set up and Flag Ceremony so those of you who are here can help Brother and Sister Priutt with those things. Be at the church on Tuesday April 6 at 6:40 p.m. to help set up and run through the color guard.

A big welcome to our newest Wolf Gabriel Hallstrom!

Thank you and see you soon.

Welcome Cub Scouts

Dear Parents and Wolves,

We had a fantastic pinewood derby! The skit was great. We really appreciated your participation.

We will use this blog to post our schedule (on the right) and keep you informed of activities you can do at home to help your son complete his requirements.

On March 10th, we will meet at 4:15 at Louisa Slater's home (347 W 3800 N) and use her expertise regarding geology.  We will be making a rock collection for each boy.  If your child has a collection they'd like to share, we will give them a minute to show and tell.

On March 17th, we will be going GREEN!!!  We will be working on achievement 7c regarding recycling.  We will make pine cone bird feeders with peanut butter and seeds.

On March 24th, we will practice for our color guard presentation and discuss the American Flag!  We will cover achievement 2e.

On March 31st, there will be no Cub Scouts.  You can use this week to complete achievement 6b and 11a.

We hope to see your son at all of these activities.  Please call or leave a comment if you have any questions.

Thanks for your support,

Arlene and Alyson
